Environmental Story #4
This one's a little more esoteric, so I'll explain--the last time I came home I caught this photograph of the desert out the plane's window, and was fascinated with the story the earth was telling--that winding line of lighter sand was once a riverbed, and it then fans out near the camera, then emptying out into what was once a lake.
The fascinating thing about geology (for me) is that if you know what to look for, you can read the story of the earth by looking at its unpeopled surfaces and the layers underneath. Storytelling is such a widespread language that even the earth herself speaks it.
