Ethics Statement
As a citizen of the world, I promise to do everything in my power to disseminate truth, speak out against corruption, and push humanity toward a brighter future.
In that interest, ethics:
I promise to respect the copyright holders of all materials to the best of my ability. Where I choose to use content that does not belong to me on this blog, I will provide the name of the creator (if available) and links to the original source (if applicable). In cases where I use a third party application which maintains ownership of content created thereupon, I will provide links/sources where applicable as well.
I will do my utmost to ensure that any information asserted as fact (which is intended to be taken as such) is correct, and to provide links or sources where I feel it is appropriate (and the information does not come from lived experience). I will do my best to protect the privacy of any private persons real and living except where the individual has waived their privacy, the event/comments mentioned can easily be found in the public sphere (such as an arrest or protest recorded by reporters, comments accessible in published media or to the internet at large (including public tweets, facebook posts, youtube videos, etc.), or instances where the individual in question is being accused of a crime for which there are witnesses or other evidence).
There may be occasions where this same care will not be taken with public figures, or for currently unforeseen reasons this practice may one day be discarded where proof of act/identity occurs. I can’t think at this moment why I might feel a need to otherwise out a private citizen, but in this game one does best to cover one’s ass.
In that respect, it is also important to note that I am only one person; I have no sponsors (unless you count the professor that will occasionally be looking over my shoulder and making demands of me, and I pay her, not the other way around [cue laugh track]), no fact-checkers, no contributors. For the time being it is all me, all the time, and individuals are known to make mistakes.
If ever something should come to your attention that you think is unjustified or an outright untruth, I ask that you please bring it to my attention, such that I might provide proof of fact, justification, clarification on the nature of the item (being that I write a good deal of fiction, I may not have meant for the item to be taken as a fact at all), or so, if there’s no saving it, I can either delete it, issue a statement of apology, or both.
Additionally, if any material on this blog belongs to you or someone you know and has not been cited to your liking, notify me and I will correct the oversight posthaste. If something you own is being used and you wish for it to be taken down, again, please alert me, and I will do what I can; copyright infringement or misuse is never my intention, but mistakes happen. I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen an image linked to its source, only to find out that the source linked to was provided by an individual aiming to take credit for someone else’s work.
Your identity remains a secret to me unless you reveal it.
Pictured: Privacy
Well, I don’t like it either, but I like it better than I like the idea of not using Blogger or Youtube. In the modern day privacy is the price of convenience.
I do maintain the right as a private citizen to have the final say on what stays or goes on this blog, except where copyright infringement comes into play. I will do my best to post primarily original material, or failing that, material under copyleft, public domain, or with a Creative Commons license which allows for sharing the product.
These ethical policies may or may not change shape over time as this blog and the world does. _________________________________________________________________________________________
